EXHIBITION CONCEPT by Yuna Mathieu-Chovet

“This is only his box. The sheep you asked for is inside”, this extract from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Little Prince means that showing a container rather than its content, can be sometimes more eloquent, because it holds the whole potential of it.
All narrative contents present works from Laura Hecker and Antone Israel, both artists setting up narrative devices, diverting them or emptying their contents.
They point at the narrative devices by showing the frame and the background without the main subject. The projection equipment is usually off-screen and used to immerse the audience into a story. Inversely here, the device is included in the work and becomes the main subject.
Both artists also work from found footage or family pictures. They are reinvestigated, or put aside. Shared memories can simply be evacuated or deconstructed, dissolving themselves, but also re-read, reconstructing and reviving a whole new story.
