DISCARDED
Julie Larrouy & Alexis Deconinck
From September 3rd to 30th, 2023

EXHIBITION CONCEPT by Yuna Mathieu-Chovet

Julie Larrouy develops her drawing practice from found images: wallpapers, decorative and advertising posters. She applies various techniques to them, such as frottage or photocopying, decomposing and recomposing images, questioning their functioning, the construction of meaning and its impact on the imaginary.

Alexis Deconinck’s practice has evolved from architecture to visual arts, while retaining a strong interest in public space as a political territory. Through sculpture and performance, his practice focuses on living material and criticizes industrial creation, which ultimately reduces this material to a state of waste.

Julie Larrouy and Alexis Deconinck, through their practice, consider the discarded, the waste and the fragment. Together, they question the material they work with, placing it in a wider context that reveals its meaning, its political and perceptive dimensions.
